I’m Jishnu, a multimedia reporter who wants to tell uncommon stories. Originally from New Jersey, I went to Syracuse University’s Newhouse School, studying journalism and graduating in 2020. I’m currently living in Houston, Texas, and learning a lot about the South.

I tell stories grounded in data about the systems underpinning the world we interact with every day. While I’ll never say no to breaking a story, it is most important to me as a journalist that I provide essential context to readers who want to understand why I’m publishing a piece of work, and how it connects to what they’re understanding.

This is more important than ever as we careen towards a post-truth world, the ramifications of which I grappled with through my early training as a journalist. I consider the timing of my entrance into the field as significant, because me and my peers came into a world and industry where facts have never been more questioned than they are now.

But I consider myself fortunate for that, because forewarned is forearmed, and regardless of the format I report the news in, I grew up learning to put the extra mile in, to make sure my stories are as clearly reported and well-sourced as possible, and to continue to engage with the communities I cover even beyond writing about them as an aloof observer.
